What consists of a "workout"?

I ask this question a because a friend and I had this debate on Sunday. Sunday I walked about 3 miles and a quarter of the walk was pushing a munchkin in a stroller through sand. To me that is a work out. Now my friend is a gym buff. She can be dog sick you mention gym and she will meet you at the car ready to go. That was not a workout. A lot of people don't consider housework a workout either. To me anything that burns calories and consists of movement should be counted. Specifically when you first start a regime. To explain...your body burns calories no matter what you are doing. Hell I burn 685.11 calories in just SITTING and doing my school work for 3 hours. So if you have been doing nothing you need to take all these things into account so when deciding what to cut your calorie intake to you don't make yourself sick.

So do you consider Sunday a workout or just part of daily life? For me I still consider that workout since I don't normally walk 3 miles a day. I don't track my housework as calorie burn every day now unless it is deep cleaning and my all time favorite thing...packing and moving which is what this month will consist of. I don't track it because my body is used to doing it so if I track it I eat calories to compensate for it. I definitely needed to track the walk to ensure I didn't go to low in calories on Sunday.

I bring this all up because I want to express to anyone reading this that no matter what it is just a little bit of EXTRA movement can be a workout. For example...getting down on the floor with the little ones (normal activity and no tracking) taking them outside and playing tag for 20 mins (your EXTRA and workout worthy) . Doing housework....normal no tracking while doing said housework a 10 minute dance party...Extra and workout worthy.

So whether you are a gym rat or a beginner the moral of this story is to just MOVE. Do something a little out of the ordinary and you will hopefully see and feel the results.
