Okay, point blank, this year has gotten off to a very rocky start...just sayin'.
I set the intention that I was going to start my 2022 on Dec 26, I laid out all
the plans as well as put on paper the things I wanted to do. Then life. I
got sick (no not that, just a winter cold), then it got cold and gross-out. Work
got crazy and I woke up this morning and it is already three weeks into the new
year and not one blog. Well, shit! There is also the fact that this morning, I
should not be sitting here typing this, I should be tackling my ta-da list, but
yet here we are. I mean it is my day off and I should be able to do the things I
want to do, not just do all the things I have to do. So I am carving out some
time for me to do this for two reasons. One is I simply want to write and two is
there is a thought that is nagging here lately. As we all know I am on a weight
loss journey. I mean this is where this started 9 years ago. This blog is and
was my take on weight loss. Over the years I have learned a lot, purposely and
accidentally forgotten a lot as well. I have figured out some ish with the help
of a coach, a few mentors, and what I surround myself with on the interwebs and
in real life. This thought that will not leave me alone is this is my journey.
What works for me may not work for you. The flip side of that is if you ask
me what I am doing and I tell you, just having the knowledge will not get you
where I am at currently.
I have put in some work both mentally and physically to get to where I am currently. I also tell you what I am doing and ask that you take it with a grain
of salt. I have spent years creating a plan that works for me as well as healing
the traumas and hurts that got me to the point of rock bottom. So my approach
may not be the best for you. What needs to also be mentioned here is this is not
a quick fix nor is it a fast process. I did the quick and fast and ended right
back at square one more times than I can count. I prefer to not do that anymore.
There is also another point, thankful for the internet and all the connections
and research that is at our fingertips. I even love I can still access the
school library for peer-reviewed journals which has shown me one huge fact.
There are many many points of view coming from certified professionals. For fun,
I searched keto...Dude, there were over 100,000 results and almost as many
different viewpoints. I say all this to say-do what feels right and what works
for you. Keyword-DO! You have to put in the work. You have to make the changes
and the choices that work and apply to your life. You can ask for all the tips
in the world, but if you do not take action with the tip it is just more lip
service that personally I have had enough of in my 41 years to last me the rest
of my life. Even when the persons we are talking with have the best of
intentions when they offer advice-solicited and unsolicited, we have to remember
that it will not always apply to what our current season will allow for us. I am
in a season of settling into actually working full time in a schedule that
rotates as well as a management team trying to navigate what it looks like
having 4 full-time managers versus 3 and it is a huge learning process. I am
also dealing with a kiddo that needs extra help with school right now as she
tries to catch up on all changes in the past few years. Is this the time for
me to undertake a huge new workout program as well as quit smoking cold turkey while getting my dirty lazy keto way of eating back under control as well as
keeping up with housework and social life...UM NO. So what am I doing to help me
take action and get into a healthier state of being:
1) Sleep-bed by 11 and up no later than 6 unless I need more sleep.
2) Drink at least one 32 ounce bottle of water. I can obviously drink and should drink more, but it is a solid start.
3) Move every morning for 5 mins to just get my body awake.
These three things are the intentions for the next two weeks. I can add in a workout, but I do not HAVE to. I can go for a spin session after work, but I do not have to right now. When I hit the above three things and I am tracking them and being intentional with them...the rest will fall into place. Then on the 30th when my next 2-week session starts, I can then add in another layer. But for this to work, I need to start tracking the above three things to know if I am even ready to add another layer. This is what I mean about the best of the intentions-I can intend to do this, but things can come up and happen.
As I wrap up this edition, I made an executive decision-I will stop trying to write every week and instead do an every two-week thing. This way I can use it as an accountability tool and another form of tracking for this year of action. So till sometime on or around the 30th-I have a ta-da list to tackle!
